Orange Tip Butterfly
A walk in any direction at Lough Mardal involves encounters with wildlife. The hedgerows hum and wildflowers are everywhere. The landscape changes dramatically with the changing of the seasons from its wintery, brown, dormant colours into a green, lush natural paradise teeming with life. From the arrival of the Canada Geese and Whooper Swans in early Spring, along with frogspawn in the soggy ditches along the lakeshore, to the darting blue damselflies and the kaleidoscopic colours of all the Summer wildflowers. Wild billberry and blackberry picking in late Summer, and then the beautiful Autumnal colours and crunch of leaves underfoot. The natural environment is in constant flux and for the nature-lovers among us there is never a dull moment.
We try to log discoveries and sightings here for those who, like us, share a grá for nature.
