The Lodge is a communal building for all guests. It provides a large, warm hang-out space with beautiful views. Keeping in mind that Lough Mardal Lodge offers an opportunity to escape the modern world, use of mobile phones and devices is discouraged in this building. Newspapers, books, board-games and puzzles are provided and there is always the old-fashioned art of conversation! (Footnote: due to Covid19 safety measures the newspapers, board-games, etc. have now been removed.)
Facilities in the Lodge:
Fully equipped large kitchen with 2 separate cooking hobs, 2 large fridges, 3 sinks and ample space. Each yurt is allocated a designated storage cupboard and fridge-space for food supplies
Each guest is allocated their own plates, bowls, cutlery, cups, etc
Separated dining areas
Large comfortable hang-out space with plenty of seating and big fireplace in the panoramic Reciprocal Room
Flushing loos - flowing through an environmentally-friendly reedbed system
Wet Room hot showers (no shared changing areas) & hairdryer
Individual lockable storage spaces assigned to each guest for valuables with re-charging socket for mobile devices
The Lodge and its facilities are wheelchair-friendly and fully accessible, as is the route from the car park.
Please note there is no wifi - we encourage guests to disconnect while here. The Reciprocal Room is a gadget-free zone be warned!
ELECTRIC CAR CHARGING POINT
We have a charging point for electric vehicles.
BBQ & CAMPFIRE
There is a designated BBQ area outside the kitchen with two BBQ's, guests must remember to bring their own charcoal.
A big campfire pit is located in front of the Lodge with a supply of firewood. Guests are very welcome to light this campfire at any stage.
Each yurt is large and spacious at 20ft diameter, fully insulated and luxuriously furnished. They are all well separated from each other and have their own private decking with outdoor seating. The Shepherd's Hut is smaller but very cosy and simply but tastefully furnished.
All accommodation includes:
Superking-size bed in the yurts (additional single beds can be provided for children) and king size bed in the Shepherd's Hut - all with extra warm winter tog duvets, crisp white 100% cotton linen and Donegal woollen blankets
Wood-burning stove with a full supply of firewood
Windows with beautiful views
Comfortable seating area
Lake, Forest or Mountain views
Hot water bottles (temporarily removed due to Covid19)
Sheepskin slippers (temporarily removed due to Covid19)
Clean fresh towels (guests need to bring their own beach towels)
Loos and showers are provided in the Lodge building. (In time en-suite loos and showers will be added to each yurt.)
There is no electricity in the accommodation. One yurt can be hooked up on request if required for medical needs. Please let us know prior to booking to ensure you can be allocated the correct yurt.
One yurt is wheelchair accessible. Please contact us prior to booking to check availability.
There are two pet-friendly yurts. There is a pet surcharge of €20 per stay and can be applied as an Add-On in the booking process if you wish to book a pet-friendly yurt. Note only one pet can be accommodated per stay. The Shepherd's Hut is not pet-friendly.
