New Shepherd's Hut this Summer

Updated: Apr 18

We are expanding our family! From this Summer in addition to our 5 Skydome Yurts we are also able to offer guests the option to stay in a cosy new Shepherd's Hut.

A Shepherd's Hut is a cabin traditionaly used by shepherd's as far back as the 15th century for sleeping in during lambing season to keep a close eye on their sheep. It was usually built with corrugated iron on top of iron wheels so it could be moved from field to field. But you can sleep at ease here, no sheep.

Our Shepherd's Hut is currently being custom made - the walls, flo

or and roof are being thickly insulated, the windows and doors are handmade of solid oak, the wheels are made by one of the leading metal casting foundries using traditional methods as it would have been done years ago. We'll post more photos over the coming weeks as it progresses through the stages until it's fully guest-ready.

Interiors will be simply but luxuriously furnished with a big comfy king size bed, crisp white bed linen, fluffed pillows and beautiful thick Donegal woollen blankets. A wood-burning stove will make it all the more snug. Positioned to ensure a beautiful lake view for you to soak up as you kick back on the veranda with a glass of wine and a mind emptied of all things Covid. (This day will come, just imagine!)

The Shepherd's Hut will sleep 2 adults and is available for booking now from July onwards (and hopefully earlier subject to restrictions being lifted) - www.loughmardalglamping.ie/book (Not suited for families.)
