ABOUT
Lough Mardal Lodge is also our little family homestead.
Having lived in the east coast of Ireland we did the opposite to what most sensible couples do when they are expecting a baby. We packed in our long-term, well-paid jobs in the high-octane events and music industry and moved west to fullfill a pipedream of living a simpler, slower life, raising our young twin girls in the countryside, somewhere beautiful, growing our own vegetables and keeping a few animals...and somehow make a living.
We settled in Lough Mardal in Donegal. A 90-acre site of wild, unspoiled natural beauty - we fell in love instantly. Setting up a small glamping lodge here became the working plan. Located on the Wild Atlantic Way coastline, accessibly remote, with two lakes and stunning landscape - we knew anyone who visited wouldn't be able to help falling in love with it like we did.
We put most of our possessions in storage and moved here in 2015, moving into a yurt (with no running water or electricity) with our 6-month old twins.

Over time we set to work on a vegetable garden, compost loos, built a chicken tractor and bought a few chickens, in time upgraded our residence to a little wooden cabin and got hooked up to electricity and then running water (properly civilised!), accumulated a dog, 2 cats, 6 donkeys, then replaced donkeys for 9 rare breed Dexter cows, restored a ruined stone cottage, planted two native woodlands, did a lot of land-prepping...and then got down to the serious business of building our eco glamping business.
We enjoyed the privilege of living the 'good life' here for the first few years in our private slice of Donegal heaven - getting back to nature, disconnecting from the white noise of the modern world and re-appreciating the simple things in life.
We now thoroughly enjoy sharing this wonderful place with you and offering you the opportunity to do the same.
