A Shepherd's Hut is a cosy little cabin traditionaly used by shepherd's going as far back as the 15th century. They would use these for sleeping in`out in the fields during lambing season so they could keep a close eye on their sheep. It was usually built with corrugated iron with iron wheels so that it could be moved from field to field.
Our fully insulated Shepherd's Hut comfortably sleeps 2 adults. Interiors are simply yet luxuriously furnished with a large king size bed, crisp white bed linen, fluffed pillows and Donegal woollen blankets. A little wood-burning stove ensures it stays warm and cosy. Sit out on the porch with a glass of wine and soak up the lake view and the hum of wildlife.

All guests have use of the Lodge amenity building which provides glamping guests with a large kitchen, loos & wet room showers (no shared changing-rooms) as well as the big lounge area in the Reciprocal Room with huge fireplace. A beautiful space bathed in light with panoramic views where you can relax and zone out, read a book or chat with fellow guests.

The Shepherd's Hut is completely off-grid, a true escape from the constant connectivity of modern life! Rechargeable lanterns and candles create a magical atmosphere in this incredibly cosy and romantic glamping getaway. Guests are assigned a secure locker in the Lodge where mobile devices can be recharged.
Lough Mardal Lodge offers the opportunity to truly escape from the white noise of modern living and constant-connectivity - we strongly recommend you lock up your gadgets and relax, unwind and disconnect during your stay! With that in mind the communal hang out space, the Reciprocal Room, in the Lodge is a gadget-free zone. There is a comfortable space in the Lobby however where guests are free to use their devices.
