The Northern Lights
At night out here at Lough Mardal, far from city glow and wrapped in un-polluted darkness, the sky becomes the main attraction. On the clearest nights guests can look up and lose themselves star-gazing, watch for shooting-stars and on those extra magical nights catch the Aurora Borealis.
The Northern Lights in Donegal seem to be increasingly more visible, and when they appear this landscape — wide open, wild, and facing north — becomes one of the best places to see them.
Whether you’re wrapped in a blanket outside your yurt, sitting around the campfire or watching from the Lodge’s panoramic windows, the experience is cosmic and spell-binding.
If the stars align and your visit here coincides with the Northern Lights we recommend looking at them from down by the lakeshore beside the sauna where, on a still night, you have double the lightshow with the lake reflections. Alternatively a walk up the hill for full immersion into the illuminated skies above (bring wellies & a torch!). Or simply stay still wherever you are and look North!
