The Northern Lights Dazzle
Last minute escapade down to the lake shoreline (best viewing spot) chasing the Northern Lights last night. Even swan & goosey swam over to enjoy the display.

Icy Lough Mardal
It's been a very icy start to 2026 which brings its challanges to this remote neck of the woods. The hilly boreens that lead to us are white-knuckle rides, the wood-burning stoves need topping up 24/7...and, well that's actually it really. The lovely guests who happened to be here, waking up to a white transformation, really appreciated the Lodge with its giant fireplace and underfloor heating all the more after their snowy rambles. Sweat House by Rosanna Cooney
It was lovely to have Rosanna come to stay last weekened. She has written a wonderful book about saunas, particularly home-made DIY ones, in Ireland but also goes into the history of sauna, or sweathouses as they began in Ireland. Well worth a read if you like your saunas.
